Statesmen Battle with Hurricanes at Home

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team hosted Camp Community College (NJCAA DIII) for a non-conference contest Wednesday evening. After their second meeting of the season, the Statesmen moved to 2-6 overall, 1-0 in conference play after falling to the Hurricanes, 62-66

 

The Hurricanes got off to a hot start right from tip-off, however, Richard Bland did not go down without a fight. The Statesmen trailed 24-37 at the half, but outscored Camp by nine, 38-29 in the second half. At the final buzzer, Camp Community College came out on top, 62-66 in the non-conference contest.

 

Jalen Smith led the way with his second double-double of the season, totaling 18 points and 13 rebounds. Doyle Brown had 14 points and four rebounds for Richard Bland. Jermaine Coston Jr. also scored his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Off the bench, Emmanuel Vonhm grabbed 12 boards with nine points, and Andy Ramirez chipped in with eight points. Dove Fishburne and Richard Agbo added four and three points in the loss.

 

Richard Bland shot 36.8% from the field, 12.5% from the perimeter, and 62.1% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next hosts Louisburg College tomorrow, Saturday, December 14th in a 3pm non-conference contest.
