COLBY, Kan. - The Colby Community College Trojans women's basketball team started Jayhawk conference play tonight with a 70-31 win over the visiting Pirates of Independence Community College. The Trojans improved to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Trojans once again played stingy defense and managed to find ways to score the ball in various ways and from several players. With the shooting challenges still present, the Trojans' always tough defensive play kept them in command of the game.
"It was a good way to start of conference play and once again see our defense step up to the challenge. We are working through the growth of our offense and we need our players to keep working hard and stay focused. I thought we settled for early three-point shots and didn't give our offense time to get going and find our flow. We can learn lessons even in a win. The competition gets much tougher as we move on in conference play and we need to keep at it. I feel We have a good offensive team and can score points, but at times we get too stagnant and settle for quick shots. " stated Coach Spence.
The Trojans return to action on Saturday, November 23, for a 2:00 game with visiting Coffeyville CC.
