Lamar, CO-Chalk game four of their opening-week series up as a total enigma. At least that's the hope.
Eduardo Cardenas homered and knocked in four runs, Lamar slugged out 15 hits, and the Lopes beat Garden City, 17-8 Friday afternoon.
For the first time in the series, Josh Oller's hurlers struggled. Starter Adam Cook was pulled after just a 1/3 of an inning, and Roy Higinbotham, Jackson Ray, and Jose Nunez combined to give up 13 runs.
The Lopes (1-3) scored in each of the first five innings, plating four in the first fueled by Randall Abney's two-run homer to right.
Garden City (3-1) though responded valiantly in the top half of the second. Justin Bush singled home two, Sean Togher, who homered in game three, smacked a two-RBI single to center, and Cody Kilpatrick doubled home a pair to give the Broncbusters a 6-4 advantage.
Lamar tied the game in the bottom half, then took the lead for good with a six-run third. In the fifth, Cardenas smashed a solo shot to right; then doubled home two in the seventh to make it 16-7.
