#10 McLennan sinks #25 Blinn
The 10th-ranked McLennan women sank the #25 Blinn Lady Buccaneers 64-39 on the road tonight in Brenham.
Blinn opened the game with a 4-0 run by Tocarra Johnson. A Jalayah Ingram layup began the McLennan scoring and the squad rallied to tie the game at six with 6:08 to go in the first quarter. A long jumper by Kennedi Ard gave McLennan its first lead at 8-6 but Blinn quickly erased it with a 3-pointer by Taylor Spencer. McLennan responded with a 6-0 run to take the largest lead of the quarter at 15-9. Four free throws from the Lady Buccaneers pulled them back within two with 15-13. Ard was on fire for McLennan in the frame, scoring 12 points including a 3-pointer in the final minute to make it an 18-13 lead after the first.
The second quarter was all McLennan. Blinn's only field goal was a DJ Kincade jumper at the buzzer. Ingram and Ard combined to score 16 points, and Pauline Maccarthy added a bucket to double the McLennan score and extend the lead to 21, 36-15.
Blinn stepped up in the third quarter, rallying to cut the lead to 14 midways through, 40-26. That would be as close as they good get as McLennan pushed the lead 18 going to the final period, 47-29.
McLennan opened the fourth on a 4-0 run with buckets by Ingram and Tyla Majors. That was just enough to put the game out of reach.
Kennedi Ard led the McLennan scorers with 21 points. Jalayah Ingram and Hannah Mouton added 18 and 13, respectively.
