Roadrunners sweep McDonald’s Classic
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners basketball team opened their 2024-2025 campaign with an 85-39 victory over the Missouri Valley College Junior Varsity in the opening round of the McDonald’s Classic inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Friday night, Nov. 1 in Sedalia.

November 1 Missouri Valley College Junior Varsity at Sedalia
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners basketball team opened their 2024-2025 campaign with an 85-39 victory over the Missouri Valley College Junior Varsity in the opening round of the McDonald's Classic inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Friday night, Nov. 1 in Sedalia.
SFCC took a 27-12 advantage with about five minutes remaining in the opening half. The Roadrunners led 42-19 at halftime and cruised to the season-opening victory.
SFCC used a stifling defense and a balanced offense to control the game. Four Roadrunners scored in double figures. Sophomore guard/forward Jon Brandtner led the team in scoring with 14 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds with six with freshman forward Donovan Matthews. Sophomore guard Alex Gunnels and freshman forward Daniel Garza scored 11 points each. Sophomore guard Mosa Osagie added 10 points. Freshman guard Tyson Mobley recorded a team-high five assists. Freshman guard Donta Davis registered a team-high four steals. Garza also blocked a team-high three shots.
"I think our team has a good balance," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "We can score inside a little bit, and we can get out and run in transition. We have good guard play, and we are a deep team. They are fun to coach. So far, I have enjoyed being around this group and I think it will be a fun group to watch."
November 2 Iowa Central Community College at Sedalia
SFCC (2-0) closed out the McDonald's Classic with a 62-51 victory over Iowa Central Community College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Sedalia.
SFCC took a 30-23 lead into halftime. Iowa Central trimmed the SFCC lead to 33-29 with about 17 minutes remaining in the second half. The Roadrunners made the plays necessary to emerge with a hard-fought victory

Gunnels led the Roadrunners with 22 points, two assists and two steals. Brandtner contributed 15 points. Garza added 10 points and tied for the team lead in steals with two. Sophomore forward Chin Hanson pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and tied for the team lead in assists with two. Freshman forward Malick Ndiaye also tied for team lead in assists with two.
"I was really proud of our guys who stepped up," said Brown. "I thought Danny (Garza) stepped up. Malick stepped up. Tyson (Mobley) and did a good job coming off the bench for us. I think it shows you we're a pretty balanced team, when three guys who are normally starters for us don't play and we still find a way to win. Overall, I was really pleased. We have a good group of guys who are fun to coach."
