SEDALIA, Mo. — The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners dropped a 62-51 decision to fourth-ranked Three Rivers Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game featured 14 lead changes and 12 ties.
The teams were tied at 12 after the first quarter and 27 at halftime. Three Rivers took a narrow 40-39 lead into the fourth quarter, then outscored SFCC 22-12 in the final period to secure the victory.
"We wanted to make Three Rivers guard and play the game at a slower tempo than what they like to play," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "I thought we did pretty good for three quarters, but in the fourth quarter we allowed them to do what they wanted. They got to the free-throw line. We didn't get a lot of looks at the three-point shot; we didn't get to the free-throw line."
SFCC shot 36.1% from the field, 16.7% from beyond the arc, and 45.5% from the free-throw line. The Lady Roadrunners also committed 18 turnovers.
Freshman guard Malia Rodgers, from Montgomery City, Missouri, led the team in scoring with 16 points and tied for the team lead in assists with three, alongside sophomore guard La'Tommas Johnson-Nash, from Dallas. Sophomore guard Madison Johnson, from Harrisonville, added 11 points. Freshman forward Ellie Buscher, from St. Louis, Missouri, grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Shae Wright, from Grandview, Missouri, recorded a team-high two steals.
