Men's Basketball: Tritons Outlast the Raiders

In a gripping basketball encounter on February 13, the Central Community College Raiders faced a challenging game against the Iowa Central Community College Tritons at the Raider Fieldhouse in Columbus. Despite a strong start and a halftime lead of 37-30, the Raiders were unable to hold off the Tritons, ultimately falling 80-76.

The game began with promising momentum for the Raiders, achieving an initial 3-0 lead thanks to a three-pointer by Kamron Kasischke. The first period saw the Raiders amplify their lead to a commanding 19 points, highlighted by Carson Starns' dynamic presence on the court, which included critical steals and fast-break layups. However, by halftime, the Tritons began clawing back, ending the first half down by just seven points.

The tide turned significantly in the second half as Iowa Central initiated a strong comeback, marked by Jordan Cain's key layup and a forceful defensive performance that put the Tritons ahead by 14 points at one stage. Despite standout performances from Kazadi Mukoma Jr., who led the Raiders with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, the Raiders struggled to regain their earlier form. Mukoma's efforts, supported by Ethan Wiley's 19 points and pivotal defensive plays, were notable but insufficient to secure a win.

The final period was tense, with the Raiders narrowing the gap to just two points before failing to complete the comeback. This game moved the Raiders to a 10-16 record for the season. The next challenge for the Raiders is against Community Christian College (MI) on February 15, back at Raider Fieldhouse, where they aim to rebound from this narrow defeat.
