Soccer Clinches Share of KJCCC Title With Win Over Dodge City

EL DORADO, Kan. – For the 14th time in program history, Butler soccer is the champions of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
The No. 11 Grizzlies defeated Dodge City 4-1 on Wednesday evening at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex. With the win, Butler clinched a share of the 2024 KJCCC championship. With a KCKCC loss or draw to Garden City on Saturday, the Grizzlies would be outright champions. With a KCKCC win, the teams would be co-champions.
"I'm really happy for the kids," said head coach Adam Hunter. "This is something we set out to do every year, it was a good regular season for us."
The Grizzlies scored two goals in each half with sophomore Giselle Nash netting two goals scoring once in the first and once in the second half.
Butler raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of the game. Nash scored just 3:56 into the game off an assist from Sakiko Manabe in the box and Maya Hoge netted the second goal to make it 2-0 off another assist from Manabe right in front of the goal.
Dodge City got on the board 10 minutes into the second half cutting the Grizzly lead to 2-1. Butler broke through down the stretch with two more goals, one from London Ingram and Nash scored again in the 83rd minute to make it 4-1.
Manabe assisted on three goals and now leads the conference with 12 assists in KJCCC play.
Goalkeeper Rylie Schiffelbein played all 90 minutes recording five saves.
The Grizzlies await their postseason opponent. They will host the opening round of the Region 6 playoffs at home on Sunday, Nov. 3rd, at 1 p.m.
