Miami Dade Dominates Daytona in 17–7 Victory
The Miami Dade Sharks exploded offensively to secure a commanding 17–7 win over Daytona State College, putting together a relentless performance at the plate and keeping the pressure on from start to finish.
From the very first inning, Miami Dade set the tone with a solo home run by Cian Copeland, followed by an RBI single from Santiago Carriles-Alvarado and a run scoring on a wild pitch to give them an early 3–0 lead. The offensive barrage continued in the second, as Copeland struck again with a two-run shot, his second homer of the game, making it 5–0.
The fourth inning saw Miami Dade extend the lead to 9–0 behind a sacrifice groundout from Talan Beckford, a sac fly by Willy Mendez, and RBI singles from Denixon Suarez and William Polanco.
Daytona tried to mount a comeback starting in the fifth, finally getting on the board with an RBI single from Derek Lopez. They followed that with a four-run sixth inning highlighted by extra-base hits from Josh Vinciguerra and William Rollings, cutting the deficit to 9–5.
But Miami Dade answered right back in the seventh with RBI hits from Copeland and Beckford to stretch their lead to 11–6. Although Daytona added one more in the eighth, Miami Dade put the game away in the bottom half of the inning. A wild sequence of events—including a balk that scored a run, an error, and a bases-clearing triple by Beckford—resulted in a massive 6-run frame that capped the scoring at 17–7.
Copeland led the way with a 3-for-4 day, including two homers and 4 RBIs, while Beckford delivered a monster performance with 6 RBIs on a pair of hits, including a 4-RBI triple in the eighth.
On the mound, Jack Garvey earned the win with five solid innings of one-run ball, striking out four. Daytona's starter Ace Williams took the loss after giving up five runs in just two innings.
