FREDERICK, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team's rally at Frederick fell short Wednesday evening as the Riverhawks were topped by the Cougars, 66-55. Zef Fuanya scored 20 points to lead AACC scorers.

Ryan Stacey added 12 points, five boards, and two steals. Mile Evans had a game-high four steals to go with five points and give rebounds off the bench.

A steal and finish from Miles Evans with 8:40 to play in the game sparked a 6-0 AACC run, getting the Riverhawks within one point, 51-50 with 5:32 to go.  The teams traded buckets – and misses – before Aiden Igwebe hit a three-pointer to put Frederick up four, 56-52, with 2:44 left on the clock. Stacy hit a free throw to get back within five, but an FCC jumper followed by a 4-for-4 free throw performance from Kylan Johnson secured the win for the Cougars.

In the first half, the Riverhawks used a 9-1 run to take a four-point lead 5:31 into the game. AACC held onto the lead until a Johnson three-pointer put Frederick ahead, 23-21, with 7:10 left in the half. Frederick quietly built up an 11-point lead toward the end of the half, and led at the buzzer, 36-29.

Frederick led the rebounding battle, 42-27, and benefitted from 20 bench points. AACC scored 16 points off Fredericks' 18 turnovers in the game.

AACC is back in action on Saturday in a 1 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 divisional game at Cecil.
