Shepherdstown, WV- Jordan Canby homered and doubled, driving in three runs to lead Potomac State in a game one victory over Erie Community College by a score of 5-2.
In the nightcap, Lex Wescott singled, doubled and tripled, driving in four runs to lift the Catamounts to an 11-3 win to complete the sweep.
Erie jumped out to a 2-0 in the 1st inning of game one, on an RBI single from Austin Deitz and a fielder's choice from Jimmy Buettner.
PSC's Chis Harbert cut the lead in half in the second inning when he doubled, stole third and came home on a throwing error.
Canby tied the game in the third inning with a solo home run. It was his first of the 2025 season.
Potomac State starter Aidan Sites brushed off a shaky first inning to retire 14 of the next 17 Erie hitters. Sites struck out six in six innings of work. He allowed just a single hit in the opening inning.
"Aidan was just a bit off in the first," said Potomac State Head Coach Doug Little. "I think we was just rushing himself, he really slowed down and it all clicked for him from there."
Freshman Landon Johnson worked a scoreless final frame to secure the win.
PSC added three two-out runs in the fourth inning. After a walk opened the inning, a double play quickly gave Erie the chance for a quick inning. Back-to-back walks to Tanner Haskiell and Dalvin Medina set the table for Canby and the Catamounts. Canby then laced a ball just inside the left-field foul line that scored both runners and made the score 4-2.
"That was a big hit," said Little. "Our hitters have been grinding to take better at-bats, and we had several that inning. After the double-play, we could have made it a quick inning for them. The walks were huge and then Jordan's hit gave us some life."
After a hit-by-pitch, Braden Sloan singled to right-field to score Canby and make the score 5-2.
From there Sites and Johnson shut down any Erie opportunity.
"Sites has had two good outings in a row," said Little. "We are counting on him. He is gutty and has good stuff."
"Johnson is the same way. He is a tremendous upside and is getting better with each appearance."
In game two, the Catamounts, (as the visiting team), jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an RBI double from Wescott and a run scoring single from Haskiell.
"We honestly have struggled offensively early this season," says Little. "It was nice to get out to lead. It feels like very game this spring we have played from behind."
The Catamounts extended the lead in the second to 6-0 on an RBI single from Reilly Bubb and a run scoring triple from Canby.
Erie answered in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs scoring on a single from Elijah Willams.
Those runs were the only ones surrendered by PSC starter Evan Jenkins. The freshman right-hander struck out five and scattered six hits, all singles.
"Evan really commanded his pitches down in the zone today," said Little. "He has also had back-to-back quality starts for us. I was really happy to see him compete and throw strikes. Like all our guys, he has things to work on, but his progress is impressive."
A five-run inning in the fifth inning put the game away for Potomac State. Five Catamount hitters walked in the frame and all five scored. The knockout punch being a bases clearing triple from Wescott.
"It was good to see Wes get it going," said Little. "He has been struggling. Which happens a lot to freshman, but he is too good a player to not figure it out. And I think he did today."
Gavin Bennett came on to relive Jenkins and worked a pair of scoreless frames, striking out four.
Potomac State, now 4-6 will play the home opener on Saturday at Golden Park for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader versus CCAC Allegany.
