Apaches Claim Crucial Win Over Kilgore in Double Overtime Thriller

Kilgore, TX – The TJC Apaches earned a hard-fought victory in an exhilarating double overtime battle against Kilgore College, 82-77, in a game that would ultimately determine seeding for the upcoming Region XIV tournament. With the win, the Apaches secured the #2 seed in the tournament, setting the stage for a promising postseason run.

A Game of Runs and Resilience

The game was a back-and-forth affair from the tip-off, with both teams showing resilience and determination. TJC got off to a strong start, leading 26-14 after the first quarter. However, Kilgore fought back, outscoring the Apaches in the second quarter, 18-12, to narrow the gap to just 38-32 at halftime.

The second half saw both teams trade leads as the intensity picked up. TJC's offense, led by standout performances from Grace Ezebilo (17 points, 13 rebounds) and Taler Thornton (17 points, 9 rebounds), kept them in the game despite Kilgore's push. After a tough third quarter where the Apaches scored just 15 points, the game headed into the fourth quarter with TJC holding a slim 53-47 advantage.

In the final regulation moments, Kilgore managed to tie the game at 62, forcing overtime. Despite both teams being fatigued, the drama continued into a second overtime, where the Apaches pulled ahead, outscoring the Rangers 8-3 in the final minutes to secure the win.

Key Performances: Apaches Rise to the Occasion

Da'Lonna Choice led the team with 11 points and 3 assists, showing her leadership throughout the game. Monica Bottley also had an excellent outing, scoring 15 points and sinking 8 crucial free throws. The Apaches shot 58.6% from the free-throw line (17-29), a stat that became critical in the closing stages of the game.

On the defensive end, Grace Ezebilo dominated the glass, collecting 13 rebounds and providing an all-around presence that helped stifle Kilgore's scoring in crucial moments. Fenishka Bertho also came up big off the bench with 6 points and 13 rebounds, adding depth to the Apaches' rotation.

With this thrilling win, the Apaches not only secure a vital win over a strong conference opponent, but they also solidify their position as the #2 seed in the Region XIV tournament.
