Miami Dade Rallies Past St. Thomas in Doubleheader Finale
The Miami Dade Sharks secured a 6-4 victory over St. Thomas University in the second game of their doubleheader, fueled by a four-run fourth inning and a strong pitching performance from Aimi Tohara.
After falling behind early, the Sharks responded in the bottom of the first with Giada Acanfora driving in Caroline Mito to cut the deficit to 2-1. Mito continued to be a catalyst in the second inning, ripping an RBI double to bring home Alyssa Densmore and tie the game at 2-2.
The breakthrough came in the fourth, as Ty Marie Cervantes delivered a clutch two-run single, plating Dana Piri and Ebba Sofia Eriksson. Gabriela Trinoski followed with a two-run single of her own, scoring Mito and Carmela Smith to extend Miami Dade's lead to 6-2.
St. Thomas attempted to rally in the fifth, scoring twice, but Tohara remained composed in the circle. She went the distance, allowing just six hits and three earned runs while striking out three.
Mito led the Sharks offensively, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Trinoski also contributed with two RBIs and two stolen bases, while Cervantes and Acanfora each added an RBI.
