Women’s Basketball Goes 1-1 Over Weekend

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team hosted Catawba Valley Community College Friday afternoon, and Cleveland Community College Saturday afternoon for two conference battles. After completion of the weekend, the Statesmen moved to 1-4 overall.

 

On Friday, Richard Bland battled with the Red Hawks. DaNiya McClure got the Statesmen on the board first in the opening minute, and they never looked back. Richard Bland outscored the Red Hawks by seven through the first period, and Mya Mewborn closed out the first half with a layup, to lead 40-25 at the break. Richard Bland added 22 points in the third, and 15 in the fourth to hold on for their first win, 80-62, of the season. Three Statesmen scored double digit figures in the win. McClure led the way for Richard Bland with 22 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Following closely behind was Ni'Ana Hill, who scored her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Ma'Liyah Hodges added 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals for the Statesmen. Khamaya Earley and Mewborn chipped in with eight points each, Keimare Gray six, and Aryauna Brent four.

 

Richard Bland shot 45.6% from the field, 20.0% from the perimeter, and 50.0% from the charity stripe.

 

On Saturday, Richard Bland fought hard against the Yetis of Cleveland Community College, falling, 67-78 in overtime. Aryauna Brent led the offense for the Statesmen with 17 points. Brent also had seven rebounds, four steals, two assists, and one block. Ma'Liyah Hodges added 15 points, three rebounds, and two steals, while DaNiya McClure totaled 10 points, one rebound, and one assist. Ni'Ana Hill chipped in with seven points, and Earley, Gray, and Mewborn added six points each.

 

Richard Bland shot 28.2% from the field, 36.4% from the perimeter, and 65.7% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next travels to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Tuesday, November 19th for a 6pm conference matchup with the Trojans.
