The Baton Rouge Bears competed against the William Carey University Crusaders JV team this evening at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center located on the BRCC Mid City Campus. The Bears delivered a commendable performance, with significant contributions from all bench players, culminating in a decisive victory of 115-48 before an enthusiastic audience at the Bears Den.
The Bears established an early 7-2 lead, with Freshman Guard McKennis Savoie contributing 2 points and Sophomore Guard Courtney McCarthy adding 5 points. The Crusaders responded strongly, narrowing the deficit to a single point at 7-6 with 16 minutes remaining; however, this would be the closest they would come for the remainder of the contest. Savoie and McCarthy efficiently scored the first 14 points of the half. By the midpoint of the half, the Bears had developed an 11-point advantage, leading 25-14.
The Bears intensified their defensive strategy, employing a full-court press that effectively disrupted the Crusaders' offensive flow and forced numerous turnovers, which resulted in multiple transition baskets for the Bears. Furthermore, the Bears displayed improved offensive organization, as ten players scored at least one basket in the first half. By halftime, the Bears had established a substantial lead of 50-24.
The second half continued in a similar vein, with the Bears sustaining their offensive momentum and defensive pressure. The team effectively distributed scoring opportunities, as every player, except for two, contributed points. At the midpoint of the second half, the Bears boasted a 37-point lead at 80-43. They restricted the Crusaders to a mere five points in the final nine minutes of the game, outpacing them with a score of 65-24 in the second half, and sealing the final score at 115-48.
The Bears capitalized on 19 forced turnovers, converting these into 27 transition points. They also dominated the interior game, amassing 58 points in the paint and securing a total of 55 rebounds (24 offensive and 31 defensive).
Courtney McCarthy distinguished himself as the leading scorer for the Bears, contributing 14 points, while Anthony Richards from the Crusaders led his team with a game-high 15 points. The Bears had four players score in double figures, compared to two from the Crusaders.

Courtney McCarthy led all Bears with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist
