Panthers take two losses Monday in Florida

Clermont, FL – Ellsworth Community College softball went 0-2 on Monday at Clermont, Fla. losing to Kishwaukee College and Cuyahoga Community College.

One inning lifted Kishwaukee College over the Panthers, 8-2. The Kougars scored five runs in the fourth to take the lead and never relinquished it. 

ECC tallied six hits, with both Taryn Petty and Alli Paulsen both went 2-3 at the dish. Petty added a double and Paulsen had a run batted in. 

The Panthers had to use three different hurlers, with Peytin Clemensen taking the loss. She threw 3.1 innings and gave up four hits, five runs and walked seven. Kaitlyn Mick threw the last two outs of the fourth frame and gave up four hits, one run and walked one. Angelica Agro finished out the game with five hits, two runs, one walk and five strikeouts. One of the two runs was a Kishwaukee home run.

ECC was all tied up with Cuyahoga Community College but the Rhinos used two home runs, including a two RBI dinger by Izzy Kepple to record the 3-1 win.

The Panthers struck first in the second frame. Julissia Arias and Petty both had doubles in the contest and Petty scoring the lone run for ECC.

Cuyahoga hurler Julee Phillips fanned 14 batters, walked six and allowed just two hits.

It was a defensive battle as Arias and Hailey Sheaffer only allowed four combined hits and walked four   but the two round trippers were the difference. Arias took the loss in the circle.
