Iowa Falls, IA – Ellsworth Community College softball scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to upset visiting 16th-ranked NIACC 3-2 in a walk-off for game one and then fell 6-2 in game two.
The Trojans (25-17, 9-7) scored their two runs in the top of the third and then went dormant. In the home half of the seventh with two outs, Peytin Clemensen came in for the final out of the game to set up the rally by ECC (15-19, 4-10).
Ainsley Brown laid down the perfect bunt and eventually scored on an RBI by Kendra Rhoner. With the bases loaded and the game all tied up at two, Julissia Arias was hit by a pitch to score the third and winning run.
The Panthers had four hits in the contest – all singles – from Ella Garstang, Avery Somers, Brown and Rohner.
Hailey Sheaffer went the majority of the game and allowed five hits, two runs, walked four and Clemensen came in for the final out.
The second game had a lot of offense with a combined 18 hits by the two squads, four extra base hits. NIACC scored four runs in the top of the third and never trailed again. The visitors added one in the fourth and the fifth before ECC got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Somers had a knock and an RBI and Mylee Taylor went 2-2 with a double and a run batted in. Garstang also went 2-4 at the dish.
Clemensen took the loss, hurling 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits, six runs (two earned) and walked four. Kaitlyn Mick came in for 2.2 innings and gave up one hit and struck out one.
