Bryant and Stratton Bobcats Split Conference Doubleheader Against Edison State Chargers at Cisar Field
SOLON, OH – The Bryant and Stratton Ohio Bobcats and the Edison State Chargers split their conference doubleheader at Cisar Field on Wednesday afternoon. The first game saw the Chargers edge out the Bobcats with a 7-5 victory, while the Bobcats bounced back in the second game with a dominant 10-1 win.
Game 1: Edison State 7, Bryant and Stratton 5
In the opener, the Chargers got the better of the Bobcats, capitalizing on timely hitting and solid pitching. Edison State jumped out to an early lead and maintained their advantage throughout, with Bryant and Stratton unable to mount a late comeback despite a strong offensive showing. The Bobcats' offense was led by freshman third baseman Hudson Gerken, who went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, but it wasn't enough to overcome a late surge from the Chargers.
Game 2: Bryant and Stratton 10, Edison State 1
Game 2 was a different story. The Bobcats' offense erupted for 10 runs, backed by a stellar pitching performance from freshman Jude Balser. Balser went six innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out five batters. The Bobcats' offense was explosive, with home runs from sophomore outfielder Kalayo Shaw, sophomore second baseman Brody Puchmajer, and freshman catcher Niko Reach.
Gerken continued his strong performance, finishing the day 4-for-7 at the plate with 4 RBI. But the highlight of the game—and potentially the season—came from sophomore left fielder Jack Amis. In a play that will undoubtedly be talked about for years to come, Amis made a diving, over-the-shoulder catch that robbed the Chargers of what could've been a game-changing extra-base hit. It was a defensive play for the ages that had fans at Cisar Field on their feet.
Looking Ahead:
The doubleheader split moves Bryant and Stratton to a 2-4 record in conference play and 9-13 overall. With a much-needed victory in the second game, the Bobcats will look to build momentum heading into their next matchup.
Tomorrow's scheduled doubleheader at Edison State has been postponed due to weather conditions and will be rescheduled for a later date.
The Bobcats' next game will take place on Tuesday, April 1st, as they face Lorain Community College at The Pipe Yard in Lorain, Ohio.
