The Miami Dade Sharks season came to an end in the FCSAA semifinals as they faced off against Eastern Florida State College. Despite an intense effort, Miami Dade fell 3-0, with Eastern Florida State's Victoria Pou Varona leading the charge, scoring all three goals in the match.
The action began early, with Eastern Florida State pushing hard on offense. A dangerous header by Lili Baidoe struck the crossbar in the fifth minute, only for Pou Varona to convert moments later with a well-timed goal. Miami Dade fought back, with Camila Martins Viera's shot blocked at the 10-minute mark, and Julia Gurgel's attempt sailing just high minutes later.
At halftime, Miami Dade was down by one goal, and as the second half started, Pou Varona wasted no time, netting her second goal just a minute after play resumed. Miami Dade's Tessa Abreu responded with a wide header, but Eastern Florida held the momentum. Pou Varona completed her hat-trick in the 56th minute, assisted by Baidoe, putting Eastern Florida State up by three.
The Sharks fought valiantly, with several promising shots from Betzael Contreras, Abreu, and Gurgel, but couldn't find the back of the net. Goalie Scarlett Veloza Albarracin also stood firm, making key saves to contain the scoring.
The Sharks finish their first season with a 10-5 record, showcasing impressive resilience and growth. With the team's core being freshmen, Coach Vengoechea looks forward to building on this strong foundation in the coming seasons.
