GAME ONE: HVCC 9 - WAUBONSEE 3
The Vikings easily dispatched Waubonsee CC Chiefs on Wednesday at the final day at the RussMatt Invitational.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the first after Jameson Balich hit a solo home run to left field. The Vikings added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when an error scored two runs, Logan Norman tripled, scoring one run, and Nico DeSanto singled, scoring one run.
Dylan Stolov earned the win for the Vikings. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and two runs over six and one-third innings, striking out six and walking none. Kyle Bartlett appeared in relief for the Vikings.
Michael Lazaridis and Christian Aguilar were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Vikings. Balich led the Vikings with two hits in two at bats. Aidan Heffner led the Vikings with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Heffner stole five bases. the Vikings stole five bases in the game.
GAME TWO: HVCC 13 - HOLYOKE 0
Logan Norman collected three hits in three at bats, as the Vikings defeated Holyoke 13-0. Norman hit a home run to right field in the third inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the first inning.
The Vikings got on the board in the top of the first inning after Nico DeSanto hit a sacrifice fly, and Niko Sorice doubled to center field, each scoring one run. The Vikings added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Aidan Heffner doubled down the left field line, and Christian Aguilar hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Five more the Vikings runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 9-0. Sorice hit a solo home run to left field, Aguilar was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Norman homered to right field, scoring three runs.
Jimmy Wilson earned the win for the Vikings. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Tyler Spenard and Alex Deitz each came on in relief for the Vikings and shutdown Holyoke.
The Vikings wrap up the RussMatt Invitational going 6-0 overall. They play Fulton-Montgomery at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam on Saturday, March 22nd at 1pm and 3pm.
