WBB Preview: Muskegon and Bay

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The No. 6 Mid Michigan College women's basketball squad (17-2, 5-0 MCCAA North) will return home to Morey Courts for two games this week, hosting Muskegon on Wednesday (Jan. 29) at 5:30 PM, before closing the week with a matchup against Bay College on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 1:00 PM. 

SCOUTING THE JAYHAWKS: Muskegon enters the week 14-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Jayhawks most recently defeated North Central Michigan 81-48 last Saturday. Four starters reached double figures led by TyVeonna Davis with 22 points. Anna Lundquist added 18 points, while Arrionna Williams added 13 and Remi Sponseller 11. Davis leads the team in scoring with 23.4 points per contest, while Lundquist leads the Jayhawks in rebounding with 10.2 per game. 

SCOUTING THE NORSE: Bay earned an 87-46 conference victory over Delta last Saturday. The Norse are 11-8 overall and 4-1 in the MCCAA North, with their only conference loss coming against Muskegon. Anna Axtel led the Norse at Delta with 24 points. She leads the team with 20.4 PPG and 7.2 rebounds per contest. Kennedy Sproule averages 12.3 points per game, while Lauren Zawada averages 12.1 points per contest. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Mid reached 100+ points for the fifth straight game in Saturday's 122-39 victory at Alpena. Delaney Seaman and Addysen Gray scored 23 points each, while Rachel Resio had a solid all-around game with 17 points, nine assists, and six steals. Paige Ebels added 13 points and seven assists, Chloe Watson posted 10 points, and Makayla Watkins recorded eight points and a game high 11 rebounds. The Lakers are ranked second in the country in team scoring with 96.9 points per game. Mid does lead the NJCAA DII in three-point shooting percentage at 34.0%. 

UP NEXT: After this week, Mid will travel to Montcalm on Wednesday (Feb. 5) at 5:30 PM. Following that contest the Lakers will host North Central Michigan at 1:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 8) from Mount Pleasant High School.
