Pohlman Pitches Baseball to Split With Garrett

ARNOLD, Md. – Anne Arundel Community College pitcher Evan Pohlman struck out a career-high 10 batters as the Riverhawks defeated visiting Garrett College, 9-0, in the second game of a doubleheader at Skip Brown Field Saturday afternoon. The Lakers won the first game, 17-1, in six innings.

Game Two

The Riverhawks got the first nine outs of the game via strikeout, and held the Lakers to three hits and just three runners in scoring position in the game. Pohlman picked up the win, going five innings with two hits and two walks. Reliever Nolan Spring came on in the sixth, allowing one hit while striking out one and walking one.

AACC scored five runs in the third, and two each in the fourth and fifth. Russell Turner drove in a the first run before Nicco Holland drove in two with a single to center. The fourth run came across on a Griffin Klein sacrifice bunt, and Holland scored the fifth via balk.

A two-out rally in the fourth produced a pair of runs when Camden Hodges hit an infield single that was subsequently overthrown. In the fifth, Agustin Murillo had an RBI groundout and Evan Birch drew a bases loaded walk.

Game One

The Lakers hammered out 15 hits in the opener, scoring twice in the first inning before adding five in the third and a single run in the fourth. It was the sixth inning where they did the most damage, scoring nine runs on three hits and three errors.

AACC scored its lone run in the fourth on a Turner sacrifice fly. 

Holland shouldered the loss on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one through two innings. Mason Barrall threw one relief inning, giving up five runs on five hits while striking out out. Austin Ferreira took the mound for two innings, allowing eight runs on four hits while striking out three and walking five. Rex Landis finished out the game with two runs on two hits while walking three and fanning one.

Next up for the Riverhawks (15-11) is a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Chesapeake College on Sunday, March 23.
