Kirkwood Splits Weekend With Ellsworth

Game 1:

After a scoreless first inning, Ellsworth took an early lead on a HR off of Kirkwood starter Andrew Carroll in the 2nd inning. The Eagles would respond with a HR of their own in the top of the 3rd to tie up the score at 1-1. The Panthers would load the bases in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th, but Carroll worked out of those jams with no runs given up. The game broke open in the 5th when Ellsworth scored 5 runs to take a 6-1 lead. The Eagles tried to get a rally going in the 7th with a HR by Adam Kayko, but it wasn't enough as they would fall 7-2 in the first game of the doubleheader.

Game 2:

The Kirkwood offense got rolling right away scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st. Ty Andrews got things rolling with a single and later scored on a double by Addison Binnie. Binnie would came around to score on the next batter after a single by Cal Sullivan. With the score 3-0 in favor of the Eagles, the offense exploded in the top of the 4th, scoring 5 runs off a two RBI single by Binne and a two RBI double by Sullivan to make it 8-0. That would be the final score as four Eagle pitchers would combine for the shutout. Beau Leisure had his best start of the season, going 7 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts, allowing only 3 hits and 1 walk to move him to 2-1 on the season.
