Spartans Walk-Off Hibbing, Settle for Double Header Split
M State and Minnesota North – Hibbing split a double header on Wednesday. The Spartans won the first game, 4-3, on a walk-off extra inning RBI single by Carson Bevill. In game two, Hibbing had the bats working as they scored 11 runs on a dozen hits to earn an 11-3 victory.
Reliever Eli Stevens (IP, 0H, 0R, 2K, 0BB) was the winning pitcher. Bevill (7IP, 8H, 3R, 1ER, 4K, 2BB) started for the Spartans.
Dain Schroeder, Tyson Barthel and Evan Lunde each contributed a hit and a run batted in for M State.
Rhegon Larson, Brayan Rodriguez, and Joel Merced each collected two hits for Hibbing.
Hibbing jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead in game two with Merced going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a 2-run homer. Larson, Bruce Slygh also had two runs batted in. The Cardinals stole six bases in the game. The winning pitcher was Landon Wood (7IP, 8K, 5BB, 5H, 3R, 0ER).
The Spartans were led at the plate by Brendon Kent who delivered two hits in three at bats.
M State (4-7) travels to Worthington on Friday for a double header against Minnesota West.
