MARTINSVILLE, VA – The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots hosted Cleveland Community College for a three-game series at Hooker Field, coming away with a 2-1 series win over the weekend. The teams battled through close contests on Friday and early Saturday before Cleveland salvaged the final game with a dominant victory.
Game 1 (March 14) – Patrick & Henry Edges Cleveland in Late Rally, 7-6
In a thrilling series opener, Patrick & Henry erased a late deficit to secure a 7-6 victory. Cleveland Community College put up a strong offensive performance, tallying 13 hits, but four fielding errors proved costly.
After trading early runs, Cleveland held a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the eighth. However, Patrick & Henry capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues, pushing across three runs to take a 7-6 lead.
Reliever J. Gunn (1-0) earned the win after 2.2 innings of relief, while Cleveland's bullpen faltered late, with William Spang and Liam Foley surrendering the decisive runs. Offensively, C. McCoy and H. Hester led the Patriots with two hits each, while Cleveland's Cruise Arnold and Nick Morris combined for four hits and two RBIs.
Game 2 (March 15) – Patrick & Henry Rolls Past Cleveland, 12-2
Patrick & Henry dominated Game 2 of the series, exploding for 12 runs on 10 hits in just six innings. The Patriots' offense struck early and often, plating runs in five of six frames.
A. Harris led the charge with a three-hit, four-run performance, while C. McCoy added three RBIs. The Patriots also wreaked havoc on the basepaths, swiping seven bags.
On the mound, L. Haynes (1-0) was excellent, tossing a complete six-inning outing, allowing just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Cleveland struggled to find any offensive momentum, managing only two runs, both coming on RBI hits from Nick Morris and Cruise Arnold.
Game 3 (March 15) – Cleveland Responds With Statement 10-2 Victory
After two tough losses, Cleveland bounced back in the series finale, exploding for 10 runs in a five-inning, run-rule victory. A five-run third and a four-run fourth blew the game wide open as Cleveland's bats came alive.
Nick Morris drove in three runs, while Logan Norris collected three hits. Jackson Gowan (1-0) delivered a strong performance on the mound, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out six in a complete-game effort.
Patrick & Henry struggled to respond, mustering just five hits and striking out six times. Their pitching faltered, with starter T. Wilson (0-1) getting tagged for six runs in 2.1 innings.
