
HICKORY, N.C. — In a match up of top-four teams in Region 10, the Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team earned an 88-83 Region 10 victory against Pitt Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Tarlton Complex.
With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Catawba Valley soared to a 49-40 halftime lead powered by a season-best nine 3-pointers in the first half, including three from Levi Robinson and two each from Benton Wofford and Zack Goodman.
The Bulldogs (8-7, 4-2) exploded out of the gate in the second half, outscoring the Red Hawks 17-6 in the first 5:34 of the half to assume its first lead since the early stages of the first half.
Red Hawks forward Josh Moore helped his team gain back the momentum and the lead with a pair of scoring plays midway through the second half, and the Red Hawks held off the Bulldogs late for the crucial conference victory.
Zion Dixon led the Red Hawks in scoring with a team-high 16 points. Wofford added 15, Robinson scored 12 points and Moore tallied 11 points.
The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday for a road conference game against Fayetteville Tech. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. at Reid Ross Classical School in Fayetteville.
