Colts compete in the Shannon Williams Classic at Middlesex Community College
On Sat. November 16th the SUNY Orange Colts traveled to Middlesex Community College to compete in the Shannon Williams Classic. In game one the Colts took on the Lions of Raritan Valley Community College, this was just the first of two meetings between the two teams this year. In their match up against the Lions the Colts found themselves trailing by just five points after one quarter of play as the score stood at 25-20 after the first 10 minutes.
After trailing by five points the Colts were outscored 23-11 in quarter number two as they found themselves trailing 31-48 at halftime. The Colts headed to the locker-room so Coach Brand could draw up some plays and figure a way to start a second half comeback. In this game Coach Brand relied on his freshman as there were four athletes who scored 5+ points and two athletes finished with 10 or more. Freshman Adriana Vazquez led the team with 17 points, Shalesse Joyner was not far behind finishing with 12 points as both recorded season highs. Olivia Harrison finished with nine points and Adriana Joy was the final athlete who scored five points.
The second half of the game unfortunately was all the Lions as the Colts scored a total of 23 points to the Lions 42 with a final score of 90-54.
Fr. Guard #5 Adriana Vazquez led the team in points scoring 17 points on 6/19 from the field and 1-2 from behind the three point line. Vazquez also grabbed four rebounds and led the team with two assists. This is Adrianna's season high in points scored beating her previous high of 15 points.
Fr. Guard Shalesse Joyner also finished with a season high in points. Shalesse finished with 12 points scoring on 5-7 shooting, she also grabbed one rebound and snatched four steals to add to her great night.
Fr. Forward Olivia Harrison finished the game with nine points shooting 3-6 from the field and tied teammate Alexis Aquino for rebounds in the game as they both grabbed eight rebounds.
On Nov. 17th the Colts played against Middlesex Community College, Middlesex had a record of 2-2 coming into the game. After the first quarter the score was tied at 10 points as both looked as if they could come away with the victory. In quarters two and three the Colts lost their momentum and found themselves trailing 50-24 after three quarters. With a final score of 74-34.
Fr Forward Olivia Harrison led the way for the Colts tallying nine points and grabbing eight rebounds.
So. Guard Victoria Harrison finished with eight points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Fr. Guard Shalesse Joyner finished the game with seven points, one rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The Colts face off against the Generals of Herkimer College on Tuesday November 19th for a 6:00 home game.
