Cold shooting night costs Matadors Women's Basketball in 56-46 loss to Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 12 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (16-3, 7-2) suffered its second conference loss of the season on Wednesday night in Douglas, Ariz., losing 56-46 to the No. 18 ranked Cochise Apaches (15-6, 7-2) at Apache Stronghold Gymnasium.

Mable Doumbia was the lone Matador in double-figures scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds in the loss.

Both teams shot below 32% from the field with the Matadors shooting 15-50 from the floor and turning the ball over 26 times.

After trailing by five at halftime, the Matadors went on a 13-0 run to end the third quarter and grab the lead, holding Cochise to just seven points in the quarter.

The Matadors were unable to keep Cochise quiet in the fourth as the Apaches scored 24 points in the final frame and held the Matadors to 11.

Nyah Hardy was the Matadors' second-leading scorer, scoring eight points while Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe scored seven points and a team-leading 12 rebounds.

The Matadors return home on Saturday, February 1, hosting Central Arizona at 2:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
