Tyler, TX- Men's soccer is moving on to the Finals after a heated semi-final win over Angelina College.
This semifinal matchup was one for the books, as both teams maintained a high level of physicality throughout the game. The Apaches kicked off the match with possession and immediately began launching several attacks toward Angelina's goal.
However, Angelina's defense held strong, with goalkeeper Casper Madsen making a series of key saves to deny the Apaches. The Roadrunners also thwarted other scoring chances, including a crucial stop off a corner kick rebound.
Throughout the first half, the Apaches dominated possession, but the Roadrunners' defensive pressure prevented any clear scoring opportunities. Much of the action took place in midfield, with the Apaches regrouping and searching for new ways to break through. Just before the break, the referee issued a yellow card to Angelina for jersey pulling.
Despite the hard-fought first half, the score remained 0-0, but the intensity never waned.
The Apaches came out strong in the second half, quickly pushing forward with another attack. However, a giveaway in midfield led to a promising scoring opportunity, only for Angelina's goalkeeper to make another diving save, once again denying the Apaches a lead.
If the Apaches have proven anything over the season it is good things take time. Forgetting about all the could-have moments the Apaches pushed forward to a beautiful goal in the 52nd minute by Carlo Romberg.
Relentlessly, the Apaches continued with their attack and Carlo Romberg was able to return the favor as he assisted Yart Van Lieshout in the 57th minute.
The Roadrunners felt the pressure and tried to create scoring opportunities to close the gap. The Apaches held strong offensively, keeping Angelina on their toes as they continued to strike. The Apaches were also met with continuous defensive support from goalkeeper Joe Pollard and defenders Jakim Brandgaard and Ljubo Popovic.
The Roadrunners were able to score in the 83rd minute with a rocket from Elias Taj from outside the box hitting the top left corner.
Angelina began their attack once again to tie the game but were unable to close the deal. Leaving the final score to be 2-1 in favor of the Apaches.
The Apaches will be back in action on Friday, November 8th for the Region XIV Tournament Finals at Pat Hartley against Coastal Bend.
