Indian River Continues Win Streak

FORT PIERCE, FL- Indian River defeated Eastern Florida 8-4 on Thursday, March 6 in Citrus Conference play. The Pioneers improved to 16-6 overall and 7-3 in the Citrus Conference standings.

The Pioneers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning after Jacob Souza doubled, scoring two runs, and Nico Lopez grounded out into a fielder's choice, scoring another. Indian River continued to score in the fifth, and a two-run home run by Brett Pratt in the top of the sixth inning extended the lead for the Pioneers.

Sophomore right-hander Lucas Glendinning earned his third win of the season. Glendinning threw five innings, striking out five and allowing only one earned run. After Sammy Beir's two innings of relief, Justin Minaberry finished the game, earning his second save of the year. The bullpen combined for four innings, striking out five and allowing only one run to cross.

The offense for Indian River collected ten hits in the game, highlighted by multi-hit performances from Jason Lashley, Nico Lopez, and Scout Simpson. The Pioneers were patient at the plate, drawing nine walks, led by Maikol Lucena with three of his own.

Indian River will look to take the series against Eastern this Saturday, March 8 at Mike Easom Field.
