Lady Bears drop conference game at LSUE

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to the Cajun Prairie in Eunice, Louisiana, to face their conference rivals, the LSUE Lady Bengals, in a matchup at the HPRE Center. Two strong offensive quarters by the Lady Bengals ultimately led to the Lady Bears' downfall, with the Lady Bengals winning 79 to 52 and securing the conference victory.
Both teams started the game a bit nervously and struggled to find their rhythm on offense during the first three minutes of play. The Lady Bears got on the board first with a basket by DeZarae at 7:04 remaining in the quarter. The Lady Bengals answered back with a bucket of their own at 6:40, tying the game. The score remained tied at four points with 5:39 left in the quarter. The Lady Bears then closed out the quarter on a 9-6 run, ending with a three-point lead at 13-10 heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter began as a back-and-forth contest, with both teams exchanging points for the first three minutes. The Lady Bengals tied the game at 17 with 7:39 to go. They then went on a 12-0 run fueled by four consecutive three-pointers, establishing a ten-point lead over the Lady Bears at 29-19. The Lady Bengals outscored the Lady Bears 27 to 11 in the second quarter, taking a 13-point lead into halftime, 37-24.
In the third quarter, the Lady Bengals maintained their offensive dominance, and their full-court press disrupted the Lady Bears' flow. Lady Bengals increased their lead to 19 points at 49-30 with 4:06 remaining in the quarter. They outscored the Lady Bears 23 to 12 in the third quarter, entering the final period with a substantial 24-point lead at 60-36.
Although the Lady Bears found some success on offense in the fourth quarter, it was too late to mount a comeback. The Lady Bengals went on to defeat the Lady Bears 79-52.
J'nyria Kelly led the Lady Bears with 13 points. Kamiera McDonald led the Lady Bengals with 20 points. With this loss, the Lady Bears fell to a record of 11-7 (3-2), while the Lady Bengals improved to 16-9 (4-0). LSUE now leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 26 wins and 19 losses.

J'nyria Kelly led the Lady Bears with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Shelcie LeBlanc added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assist.
Frandreka Keller scored 7 points with 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

The Lady Bears will take on the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags this Saturday, February 15, 2025, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC Midcity campus. The tip-off is set for 2 PM.
