By Tyriq Smith

The CBBC Essex Knights Women's Basketball team extended their perfect season on Wednesday night with a commanding 88-63 win over Prince George Community College. The victory pushes the Knights' record to an impressive 16-0 (7-0). Gissel "Gigi" Gamble led the charge, finishing with a game-high 31 points on 11-of-19 shooting. Paige Smith and Adela Cecunjanin also contributed strong performances, adding 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the Knights pulled away late for a decisive 25-point win.

The game began with a stifling defensive effort from the Knights, who limited the Owls to just 19% shooting in the first quarter, forcing 6 turnovers. Gamble and Cecunjanin found their rhythm in the second, combining for 18 points to give Essex an 11-point lead at the half.  Contributions from Kwashanti Holmes and Antionique Auston were also key to the team's victory. Holmes scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, while Auston dominated the boards with 8 rebounds, adding 5 assists and 5 points to the mix.

In the second half, the defense remained relentless, forcing another 7 turnovers in the third quarter. Gamble's 6 steals for the game were crucial to the victory, while also tallying 17 of her 31 points in the final two quarters. Overall, the Knights held Prince George to just 30% shooting from the field and a mere 17% from beyond the arc.

As the Knights continue to steamroll through the season, their depth and teamwork are becoming more apparent with each game. With Saturday's matchup against Monroe University looming, the Knights will look to extend their perfect record and further solidify their place at the top of the standings. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 2 PM at home, where the Knights are ready to face their next challenge.
