March 23, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against Penn State Shenango on Sunday afternoon at The Pipe Yard, falling 10-9 in game one and 20-7 in game two.
Game 1:
After Shenango scored twice in the top of the first, LCCC answered back with a run in the bottom half when Travis Gentry (Huntsville, Alabama/Huntsville HS) drove in Colin McCrone (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) with a single. The Commodores added runs in the third and fourth innings, scored by Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS) and Luke Decker.
Trailing 9-3, LCCC staged a comeback in the sixth inning, plating six runs to tie the game. After Shenango issued three straight bases-loaded walks, Gentry reached base on a fielding error, allowing two runs to score. Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Austrailia/Callaghan HS) followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing in Sanders to even the score at 9-9.
However, the Lions struck for a run in the seventh to regain the lead, and LCCC went hitless in its final three at-bats.
Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) started game one, pitching 3.1 innings with four strikeouts. Jonathan Lockard (Hartville, Ohio/Lake HS) came on in relief in the fourth, striking out two, while Joey Kulwicki (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) pitched the seventh inning.
Game 2:
In a back-and-forth game two, LCCC jumped out to an early lead with Sanders and McCrone crossing the plate to put the Commodores on the board. However, Shenango responded with three runs in the second and another in the third to take a 4-2 lead.
LCCC fought back as Giovanni Crawford (Reno, Nevada/Earl Wooster HS) doubled off the left-field wall, driving in three runs before scoring on a Kulwicki single to give the Commodores a 6-4 advantage.
That was where the momentum ran out for LCCC. Shenango erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. The Commodores managed to add a run by McCrone in the bottom half of the frame, but the Lions put the game out of reach with another seven-run outburst in the seventh.
Clayton Pike (Lincoln, Arkansas/Lincoln HS) started game two for LCCC, pitching five innings with four strikeouts. Yannick Kiss (Bad Homberg, Germany/Phillip-Reis Schule) came on in relief for the final two innings.
