Herkimer Suffers First Loss of the Season Against No. 2 CCBC Essex

The Herkimer Generals Men's Lacrosse team faced its toughest challenge of the season, falling 21-3 to No. 2-ranked CCBC Essex on the road. The loss marks the first defeat for the Generals, who now sit at 4-1 after a strong start to the season.

Herkimer struck first in the opening quarter with a goal from Chris Rose, assisted by Ryan Hoyt, but Essex responded quickly and forcefully. The Knights poured in six goals in the first quarter and carried a 10-2 lead into halftime. The Generals' only other goal in the first half came from Ryan Hoyt off a feed from Eric Attleson in the second quarter.

Despite Herkimer's efforts to slow down Essex's offensive attack, the Knights continued to dominate possession, outshooting the Generals 64-24. CCBC Essex won the ground ball battle 42-25 and capitalized on extra-man opportunities, converting six man-up goals compared to Herkimer's one.

Chris Rose added a power-play goal in the third quarter on an assist from Jordan Fox, but Essex continued to pull away, tacking on six goals in the fourth quarter to secure the decisive victory. The Knights controlled the faceoff circle, winning 18-of-26 draws, which helped them dictate the pace of play.

Despite the tough loss, Herkimer will look to bounce back as they return to action in their next matchup at Tompkins Cortland CC on Wednesday at 4:30 PM.
