Lakers Struggle in Home Opener Against Delaware Tech

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Lakers were on the defensive early as Delaware Tech controlled possession and capitalized on extra-man opportunities. Goalkeeper Blake Wells (Scranton, PA./Abington Heights) was tested throughout the game, facing 66 total shots and making 14 saves in a demanding performance.

After falling behind early, Finger Lakes got on the board in the second quarter when Matthew Brown netted a man-up goal off a strong setup in front of the crease. The Lakers continued to battle, with Dakota Bajdas (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) finding the net in the third quarter on an extra-man opportunity, assisted by Philip Love (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse), cutting into the deficit. Dillon Robinson (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) added the third and final goal for the Lakers late in the fourth quarter, but Delaware Tech's offensive firepower proved too much to overcome.

Defensively, Matthew Brown and Christopher Cangemi (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) forced turnovers to slow Delaware Tech's attack, while Dillon Robinson and Isaac Pundt (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) each scooped up key ground balls. The Lakers showed flashes of solid ball movement, but penalties disrupted their rhythm, leading to multiple extra-man opportunities for Delaware Tech.

The Lakers will look to clean up their possessions and capitalize on their scoring chances next Monday as they travel to Utica, N.Y. for a matchup with the Herkimer Generals at Wehrum Stadium.
