Late-Inning Rally Stuns Miami Dade in 6-5 Loss to Seminole State
Miami Dade fell in heartbreaking fashion to Seminole State College of Florida, 6-5, after a late comeback by the Raiders in the ninth inning.
The Sharks appeared to be in control after a three-run fifth inning put them ahead 5-2, but Seminole State chipped away at the lead with a solo homer in the seventh and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the eighth before striking in the ninth.
Miami Dade's offense was led by Santiago Carriles-Alvarado, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Willy Mendez, who drove in two runs in the fifth inning. The Sharks had nine hits but struggled to capitalize late, as Seminole State reliever Garrett Caropreso shut them down over the final 4.2 innings.
On the mound, Gabriel Cruz turned in a strong relief outing for the Sharks, allowing just two runs on one hit over six innings, striking out six. However, errors and walks proved costly, as three Miami Dade miscues contributed to Seminole State's comeback.
The Raiders tied the game in the ninth with a clutch RBI single from Landon Franklin before Alejandro Abreut delivered the go-ahead RBI double.
