Miami Dade Drops Season Opener to Pasco-Hernando in a Tough Battle
The Miami Dade Sharks faced off against Pasco-Hernando State College in their season opener, but despite an early lead, the Sharks fell 5-3.
Miami Dade took the lead in the fourth inning when Santiago Carriles- Alvarado crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to center field by Jendy Gonzalez. The Sharks appeared to have momentum on their side, with solid pitching keeping the Conquistadors off the scoreboard through four innings.
However, Pasco-Hernando struck back in the fifth, capitalizing on patience and clutch hitting. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Castillo brought in the tying run, followed by a two-run single to right field from Thompson to put the Conquistadors ahead 3-1. Adding to the damage, an error by Miami Dade's first baseman allowed another run, giving Pasco-Hernando a 4-1 lead by the end of the inning.
The Conquistadors extended their advantage in the sixth inning when Anthony Cole scored on a throwing error by the Sharks' catcher, pushing the score to 5-1.
Miami Dade refused to go quietly, rallying in the eighth inning. Michael Petite and Cian Copeland both scored on wild pitches, with Thomas White advancing to third on the latter play. The Sharks clawed back to make it 5-3, but the rally stalled, leaving them two runs short.
While the Sharks showed resilience late in the game, defensive errors and missed opportunities proved costly. Pasco-Hernando capitalized on key moments, securing the win and spoiling the Sharks' season debut.
