Vikings drop MCCAA Western Conference matchup at home.
CENTREVILLE — A buzzer-beater by Marian University's Ancilla College to end the first quarter gave the visitors some energy that propelled them the rest of the way en route to a 52-34 women's basketball victory Wednesday at Glen Oaks.
Glen Oaks led 5-0 early before Ancilla went on a 13-4 run to close out the first stanza. The Chargers would eventually build a 26-14 halftime lead.
Entering the game with a 14-1 record and averaging 78.6 points per game, the Chargers were held to their lowest total of the season so far but were able to hold Glen Oaks to single digits in the first three quarters.
Kalamazoo products Kennedy Lockett and Jordyn Partee led the Vikings (4-11, 0-2 MCCAA Western Conference) with eight and seven points, respectively. Chelsi Zyla finished with six points, including a 3-pointer, and Tracy Ackley had four points. Kylie Quist added a triple, and Jayla Parker-Vincent, Kaytlin Smith and Kambrya Zilm each chipped in two points.
The Chargers outscored Glen Oaks 14-2 at the free-thow line and shot 73 percent from the stripe for the game on their way to their second MCCAA Western Conference victory.
Glen Oaks hits the road Saturday for a matchup against Lake Michigan College at 1 p.m.
