Southwestern Spartans Men's Basketball team delivered a memorable performance under new Head Coach Darryl Fletcher, clinching an 85-78 overtime victory against Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska. This game marks Coach Fletcher's first win with the Spartans, a significant achievement following a challenging preseason and a tough loss to Southeast last year.
Leading the charge, Southwestern's forward James Braddy secured a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, showcasing his presence on both ends of the court. Jakub Jozef Istok added 18 points, efficiently shooting 60% from the field, while Rickey Loftin II contributed 15 points with strong defensive rebounding and two steals. Together, the team played a fast-paced game, with multiple lead changes and a comeback to outscore Southeast 16-9 in overtime.
Coach Fletcher expressed his pride and optimism following the game: "So proud of this group of guys. We have battled through some early adversity, and it didn't stop us. We have more to work on, but I'm very happy with where we are headed. Big thanks to my assistant coaches and all the parents and family that came out."
Southwestern Community College will continue on the road, starting with five away games to start the season.
