CCC Softball Sweeps Catawba Valley in Commanding Doubleheader Victory
Shelby, NC — The CCC Yetis softball team put on a dominant display Wednesday afternoon, sweeping Catawba Valley Community College in a doubleheader at home. The Yetis roared to a 15-1 run-rule victory in Game 1 before edging out a tighter 3-2 win in Game 2 to complete the sweep.
Game 1: Offensive Onslaught Fuels 15-1 Blowout
CCC wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, exploding for 15 runs in just four innings of offense. The team racked up 11 hits, capitalized on three Red Hawk errors, and executed situational hitting with precision.
Key Highlights:
-
Austyn Dixon was electric at the plate, going 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs, including a pair of doubles that sparked scoring rallies in the first and second innings.
-
Elizabeth Smith crushed a three-run homer in the third, capping off a seven-run frame that effectively sealed the game.
-
Kassie Swink contributed a 2-for-2 performance with a double and RBI, and Jaylen Ledbetter added two hits and a stolen base.
-
Pitcher Christian Beaver (W, 1-0) delivered a complete-game five-inning outing, allowing just one earned run while striking out five.
Catawba Valley managed only five hits, with Miranda Valerio notching two of them and scoring the team's lone run on a single by Gionna Mehrtens in the third.
Game 2: Yetis Edge Red Hawks in a Tight Battle
After the blowout in Game 1, Game 2 brought more suspense. The teams matched each other with five hits apiece, but CCC's timely hitting and solid defense made the difference in a 3-2 nail-biter.
Key Highlights:
-
Sara Rose Warlick provided the spark with a solo home run in the fourth inning, her second RBI of the game.
-
Kassie Swink tripled in the third to drive in Peyton Whitson, who had earlier tripled to set the stage.
-
Jaylen Ledbetter added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to bring in the insurance run that proved crucial.
Sayge Strange (W, 1-0) pitched a full seven innings for CCC, striking out seven and allowing just two earned runs on five hits.
Catawba Valley's offense was again led by Valerio, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI. But despite productive at-bats from Kailee Smith and Tristan Smalling, the Red Hawks left too many runners stranded and couldn't capitalize in the final inning.
Series Summary:
The Yetis combined for 18 runs and 16 hits across both games, while their pitchers held the Red Hawks to just 3 total runs and 10 hits. Strong pitching performances, clean fielding (only one error across both games), and explosive offense defined CCC's sweep.
With the wins, CCC softball continues to build momentum as the postseason nears, showing both firepower and poise in high-pressure situations.
