The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team earned two wins. The Lakers started off beating Northland Community and Technical College 19-0 in five innings, before taking down Kishwaukee College 4-2. The Lakers are now 10-6 overall on the season.
GAME 1: 19 (ILCC), 0 (NCTC) 5 innings
The Lakers put on a hitting clinic in game one, combining for seventeen hits in the game. Kaitlyn DuChateau led off the game with a single and then came around to score on Macy Pickett's triple. Korilynn Christians followed with a double to score Pickett and give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. Christians advanced to third on a fly out to right by Bailey Smith before scoring on a passed ball.
Iowa Lakes then exploded for eleven runs in the top of the second, led off with a Northland error that allowed Karlee Akers to reach first. Brooklyn Bode then stepped in and tripled to score Akers before scoring herself on DuChateau's single up the middle. The Lakers then went back-to-back-to-back with balls flying over the fence. The home runs came from Pickett, Christians, and Smith to put the Lakers up 9-0. Taylor Larson kept the offense rolling with a single, which was followed by an Akers single, and a Bode walk to load the bases. Abby Burgess then stepped in and hit the Lakers' fourth home run of the inning to clear the bases and make the score 13-0. DuChateau then reached on an error before scoring on a triple from Marrissa Miller.
Myla Murphy led off the bottom of the third with a single and then scored on Larson's home run. With two outs, Bode hit her second triple of the game before a double by Burgess and single by DuChateau put the Lakers up 18-0. DuChateau was able to advance to third on another Northland error before she scored the final run of the game on a passed ball.
Northland threatened in the seventh, loading the bases with nobody out. Kassidy Elkins buckled down and got a strikeout, groundout, and strikeout to complete the 19-0 shutout.
Abby Burgess led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-3 with five runs batted in and two runs scored. Kaitlyn DuChateau was 3-4 with four runs scored, while Macy Pickett, Korilynn Christians, Taylor Larson, and Brooklyn Bode each added two hits in the game. Kassidy Elkins threw the five-inning shutout, allowing one hit and four walks while striking out eight.
GAME 2: 4 (LLCC), 2 (KC)
Kishwaukee was able to get on the board first in game two when the Lakers allowed the second batter of the game to reach on an error. She advanced to second on the error and then scored on a single up the middle.
Iowa Lakes was able to tie the game at 1-1 when Christians led off the top of the fourth with a single. She then advanced to third on a passed ball, before getting just sixty feet from home on a ground out from Larson. Christians was able to score on a groundout from Alexis Cullinane. DuChateau put the Lakers ahead 2-1 when she hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Lakers until the bottom of the sixth when Kishwaukee had a solo home run of their own to tie the game at 2-2.
Going into the final inning of play, Burgess drew a one-out walk and then advanced to third on a single from DuChateau. With runners at second and third, Miller delivered a single to left to put the Lakers up 4-2. Pickett was able to put Kishwaukee down in order in the bottom of the seventh with a groundout to DuChateau and back-to-back strikeouts to complete the win.
Kaitlyn DuChateau led the Lakers offense, going 2-3 with two runs scored and one run driven in. Korilynn Christians was 2-4 with a run scored in the game. Macy Pickett earned the win, going 3.2 innings and allowing one earned run on one hit, two walks, and five strikeouts. Taylor Larson started the game and threw 3.1 innings, allowing one run, zero earned, on five hits, two walks, and one strikeout.
The Lakers are back in action tomorrow, March 11th, at 10:00 AM (EST) to take on New College University JV. They will then play at 2:45 PM (EST) against Erie Community College.
