PERKINSTON, Miss. — The No. 19 Pearl River women's basketball team broke the century mark Saturday afternoon against Enterprise State, defeating the Boll Weevils 102-45
"I'm extremely proud of our girls for the way they approached this game from a mental maturity standpoint. It was a challenge to act like we had never played this opponent before," Pearl River head coach Scotty Fletcher said. "We had to focus on executing and having discipline offensively and defensively.
"Enterprise State is extremely well-coached and made a bunch of shots in the first half. It was a great team win."
Pearl River (4-0 overall) exploded for 27 points in the first quarter of the night, leading Enterprise State (0-5) 27-13 after 10 minutes.
The Wildcats outscored the Boll Weevils 24-12 in the second quarter to head into the half with a 26-point, 51-25 lead.
Pearl River widened the gap to 41 points in the third quarter of the afternoon, taking a 76-35 lead over ESCC.
The Wildcats sailed past the 100-point mark in the final quarter of the game, going on to defeat Enterprise State 102-45.
BY THE NUMBERS
Jasmine Jackson (Jacksonville, Fla.; Andrew Jackson) was huge for Pearl River, finishing with 17 points. Natasha Barnes (Chicago, Ill.; Kenwood Academy) was second on the team with 15 points. Sanyla Smith (Tupelo) finished with 12 points.
Every Wildcat that featured in the contest got on the scoresheet.
"We did a really good job of sharing the basketball," Fletcher said. "I was really proud of Natasha, and her presence on the court was really good.
"I thought Jasmine responded in the right way and was a key contributor today. Our defense was very active, and that's always an added bonus."
