Miami Dade takes down Mississippi Gulf Coast
In an electric matchup, the Miami Dade Sharks claimed a resounding 89-76 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, improving their record to 9-5 for the season.
The Sharks set the tone in the first quarter, establishing a fast pace and outscoring Mississippi Gulf Coast 24-17. Jazmyne Bynum and Kiara Harris led the offensive charge with efficient shooting, while Shameir Quimby made her presence felt in the paint. The second quarter saw Miami Dade take complete control, overwhelming Mississippi Gulf Coast with a 28-9 run. The Sharks' defensive intensity forced their opponents into tough shots, and their ability to capitalize on turnovers widened the gap. By halftime, the Sharks held a commanding 52-26 lead, leaving Mississippi Gulf Coast scrambling for answers.
Despite the deficit, Mississippi Gulf Coast came out fighting in the second half. The third quarter saw them find their rhythm, scoring 22 points and trimming the Sharks' lead. However, Miami's well-rounded attack ensured the Sharks stayed ahead. Players like Cleaira Peterson and Quimby continued to dominate the boards, securing critical rebounds and denying their opponents second-chance opportunities. The fourth quarter turned into a high-scoring affair, with Mississippi Gulf Coast putting up 28 points. However, the Sharks matched their intensity, scoring 24 points of their own to seal the victory.
Kiara Harris emerged as the game's standout performer, leading all scorers with 25 points. Her accuracy was phenomal, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and an impressive 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Harris's ability to score efficiently from multiple spots on the court made her a constant threat. Jazmyne Bynum complemented her performance with 21 points, shooting 9-of-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. Bynum's scoring consistency provided the Sharks with a reliable offensive anchor throughout the game.
In the paint, Shameir Quimby and Cleaira Peterson delivered key performances. Quimby added 19 points and eight rebounds, including six offensive boards that extended crucial possessions.
