Smith Records Triple-Double in Men’s Basketball Conference Victory

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team hosted Denmark Technical College Saturday afternoon for a conference contest with the Panthers. After the contest, the Statesmen moved to 4-8 overall, 2-0 in conference play after defeating the Panthers, 70-47.

 

Saturday afternoon, Richard Bland went on a 14-0 run before the Panthers could score. The Statesmen only allowed Denmark Tech to score four points through the first 13 minutes of the game. Despite only having a 10-point, 30-20 lead at the half, the Statesmen came out of halftime hot, putting up 40 points, compared to the 27 the Panthers scored, as Richard Bland coasted to a 70-47 conference victory.

 

Jalen Smith led the way for the Statesmen with his first triple-double of the season, recording 14 rebounds, 11 points, 11 assists, three steals, and one block. Emmanuel Vonhm had another big game for Richard Bland with his third double-double of the season, with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Andy Ramirez also had a big game for the Statesmen with his fourth double-double of the season, tallying 11 rebounds and 10 points. Jermaine Coston Jr. and Doyle Brown chipped in with 11 points each, while Dove Fishburne added six rebounds and three points, Christian Chambers added two points and two rebounds, and Richard Agbo had three rebounds.

 

Richard Bland shot 40.7% from the field, 8.3% from the perimeter, and 80.6% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next hosts Brunswick Community College on Sunday, January 19th. Tip-off is set for 2pm this afternoon.
