The Patriots got just what they needed on Saturday with their doubleheader sweep of the Eastern Florida State College Titans. CF won by scores of 10-2 and 10-0 to improve their Citrus Conference record to 3-3. The win enabled the Pats to win the series 2 games to 1.
In the first game, the offense was led by Victor Martinez who hit two home runs, his third and fourth of the season. Martinez ended the game with four RBI. Logan Chapman contributed three hits with three RBI and Jacob McKenzie homered.
Jay Jung started and went 3.1 no-hit innings allowing only one run, but uncharacteristically walked five batters. Jung was able to work his way out of those jams. Cooper Ryan relieved Jung and earned the win with 1.2 innings giving up only two hits, one run, with two strikeouts. Kohl Kilcrease closed out the final two innings with no hits and one strikeout.
In game two the Pats dominated on both sides of the ball. Peyton Fall (2-0) had his best outing of the season with a five inning complete game shutout. Fall allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out five Titan batters.
Offensively, the Pats bats erupted for fourteen hits in the five innings including three from Chapman and three from Armando Guirola. McKenzie hit his second home run of the day and his third of the season. Marcus Bradshaw and Anthony Diaz contributed two hits each with a combined three runs batted in.
The Patriots improve to 14-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Citrus Conference while the Titans fall to 12-7 and 3-3.
CF will be back at Goodlett Field for a conference game on Thursday when the St. Petersburg State College Titans visit Ocala. That game will start at 2 PM.
