Panthers Rally Back For Road Win at Hudson Valley

The Panthers men's basketball team rallied back from a 12-point first-half deficit to post an 81-72 road win over Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday. Tompkins Cortland improves to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 3. Hudson Valley drops to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in region.

The home team jumped ahead early, leading by double digits midway through the first half. The Panthers came back, using an 18-3 run over a five-minute span erase the deficit and take the lead. The advantage for the Panthers stood at 42-37 at the half. A spurt early in the second half pushed the lead to 13 points, and despite a late push by Hudson Valley, the Panthers never trailed in the second half.

Javonte Long (Harlem/Clayton H.S.) continued his strong start to the season with a game-high 27 points. Marqiis Samuels (Long Island/The Patrick School) also reached double figures in scoring with 13 points to go with 7 rebounds. Kobe Nwosu (Spring Valley/North Rockland H.S.) had 10 rebounds while Kaleb Nutifafa (Elmsford/Alexander Hamilton H.S.) pulled down won 9.

The Panthers host SUNY Adirondack Sunday.
