#1 Eagles Set Another Record in Win

Cedar Rapids, IA-

Kirkwood            91
Iowa Western     47

For the second time in the last four days, the Kirkwood Eagles set a new NJCAA DII women's basketball record.

On Saturday, the Eagles broke their own national record, which was set back in the 2008 & 2009 seasons, with their 40th consecutive victory.

With Kirkwood's 91-47 victory over Iowa Western, the Eagles won their 64th consecutive home game, surpassing the mark that Lackawanna (PA) set from 1991-97.

Ironically, Kirkwood's last home loss was to Iowa Western 73-68 back on March 13th, 2021.

Since then, Johnson Hall has not been a pleasant place for opposing teams to visit and Wednesday night was no different.

Kirkwood (20-0 / 10-0) jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead just 2:24 into the game and never looked back.

The Eagles would own a commanding 35-8 lead after a quarter of play.

Kirkwood's dominance continued in the second quarter, as they shot 65% (26-40) from the floor in the first half, and took a 58-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was similar to the first half, as Kirkwood would use an 18-4 run to take their largest lead of the game at 83-30 with 9:25 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Jenna Twedt led four Eagles in double figures with a game-high 17 points, while sophomore Kaliyah Sain finished with 16 points.

Sophomore Lizzy Puot added 12 points and six rebounds, while freshman Olivia Wren added 10 points and six assists.

The Eagles would outscore Iowa Western 30-10 in bench points, led by freshman Eva Steffensen's seven points.

Sophomore Ella Pritchard score six points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds for the Eagles.

A trio of Kirkwood players scored five points, including sophomores Ellah Kissell and Sam Veto and freshman Kennedy Blakely.

Sophomore Jariah Harris added four points and sophomore Kora Alesch and freshman Briana Martin both chipped in two points each to round out the scoring.

The Eagles capitalized on numerous miscues by Iowa Western by scoring 35 points off 24 Reivers' turnovers.

Kirkwood returns to action on Saturday when they travel west on Hwy 30 to take on Marshalltown at 1:00 pm.
