Alpena Community College's mens basketball team started its season with a 95-60 loss to Rock Valley College at the Terrace Bay Hotel Tip-Off Classic in Escanaba.
The Golden Eagles led 40-21 at the half before exploding for 55 points on 62% shooting in the second half. Rock Valley outrebounded ACC, 37-24 and the Lumberjacks had 26 turnovers to only 11 by RV.
ACC's Chas Stanek, playing in his first college game, led all scorers with 17 points, hitting on 7 for 9 from the field and a perfect 2 for 2 at the line. Dezmond Gilleylen also finished in double figures with 11 points.
Stanek and Nick Fileccia each grabbed five rebounds to lead the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks (0-1) play again tomorrow, Nov. 2 at noon against Minnesota North College-Hibbing. ACC lost a tight one against Hibbing last year in the same tourney, 63-60.
