The Delta College Pioneers faced a tough four-game series against Grand Rapids Community College, falling short in each contest by scores of 0-13, 0-15, 0-12, and 3-8.
In Game 1, the Raiders took control early, putting up eight runs in the second inning and five more in the third. Despite the early deficit, Delta showed resilience through the later innings. Layke Hornung led the Pioneers offensively with three hits, including a double. On the mound, Wyatt Armbruster recorded two strikeouts, while Mason Beaver added three strikeouts and committed no errors. The game concluded in five innings with a 13-0 victory for Grand Rapids.
Game 2 saw continued struggles for Delta, both offensively and defensively. GRCC broke through with an 11-run second inning and followed it up with four more in the third. The Pioneers couldn't find momentum at the plate. Although Jack Berthiaume, Caiden Larkin, David Walsh, Ayden Wilkes, and Trevor Ramsdell each contributed a hit. Grand Rapids sealed the win 0-15
In Game 3, Delta's offensive woes persisted. David Walsh provided the lone hit for the Pioneers, as Grand Rapids continued their strong play on both sides of the ball. The Raiders closed out the game in five innings with a 12-0 win.
Game 4 saw signs of life from the Pioneers' offense. Grand Rapids jumped out to an early lead with one run in the first and five more over the next few innings. Delta responded with runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. Tyler Smith crossed the plate twice, and Dylan Rodriguez added a run of his own. Although the team ultimately fell 8-3, the performance marked an improvement and gave the Pioneers something to build on.
While it was a challenging series, Delta looks to regroup and focus on tightening up defensively as they prepare for the upcoming doubleheaders against Lorain County Community College on Friday, and Terra State Community College on Saturday.
