Highlanders sweep Vikings
The 18th-ranked McLennan Highlanders swept the Grayson Vikings this evening at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took the opener 2-1 with Alex Wallace getting the win on the mound.
The Highlanders score one in the first. Spencer Butt singled and advanced on a ground out by Marcus Smith. Deiten Lachance then singled to score Butt.
The Vikings tied the game with a run in the top of the third. Kain Sanchez was hit by the pitch, and Sloan Barrett singled. Brandon Seidmeyer walked to load the bases. Austin Godwin also walked, scoring Sanchez.
McLennan scored the winning run in the bottom of the third. Smith singled, and Lachance and Goytia both walked to load the bases. McClane Helton then singled to score Smith.
The Highlanders defeated the Vikings 12-7 in the nightcap with Mason Cook picking up the win and Cade Waibel getting the save.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the first. Butt singled and Smith was hit by the pitch. Harden singled, and Butt scored on an error. Smith the scored on a ground out by Goytia.
Grayson got on the board with a run in the second. Godwin walked and Caleb Hoover singled. Chase Womack then singled to score Godwin.
The Highlanders added a run in the second. Ty Waid singled, Walker Freeman and Butt both walked. Waid then scored on a fielder's choice by Smith.
The Vikings took the lead with three runs in the third. Sanchez and Barrett both walked and advanced on a ground out by Brandon Creek. Nik Sanders then doubled to score both runners. Sanders advanced on the throw and scored on a sacrifice fly by Godwin.
McLennan went back on top with three in the sixth. Smith walked but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Harden. Lachance walked, and Goytia followed with a three-run homer.
Grayson added a run in the top of the seventh. JT Cinega reached on an error, and advanced on a sac bunt by Sanchez. Creek then singled to score Cinega.
Two more Highlander runs score in the bottom of the seventh. Johnson reached on an error and advanced on a bunt by Waid. Butt walked, and Smith singled to score Johnson and Waid.
Grayson responded with two runs in the top of the eighth. Hoover doubled and Easton Paxton singled. Womack singled to score Hoover, and Paxton scored on a single by Cinega.
McLennan tacked on four runs in the bottom of the inning. Lachance was safe on dropped third strike, and Goytia doubled. Jackson Irons followed with a double to score both runners. Johnson singled, and Irons scored on a bunt single by Waid. Freeman was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Johnson then scored on a sac fly by Butt.
